| Seasons What
we are likely to see in Austral Spring, Summer and Autumn
Our expeditions include the two months of the Patagonian Spring, from September
to October, the Antarctic summer, from November to March, and the Patagonian autumn, from
March to April. It is in the Antarctic summer that this continent looks its most
magnificent, and yet each month has something of its own to show you, so it is for you to
decide the period when you would like to make the expedition. The climate in Patagonia has
pleasant average temperatures in the daytime, with clear dawns and strong winds. These
conditions are ideal for enjoying its natural beauty and the animals and plants which grow
there. This is the reproduction period for most of the fauna and flora of the amazing
Magellan steppe forests, surrounded by the full majesty of Darwins Mountain Range; a
pioneers land, rich in rivers, volcanoes, and crystal waterfalls.
September and October in Patagonia
The Magellan forest starts its regeneration process at the beginning of the
Patagonian Spring. The cold days go and warmer days arrive. Springtime has come and brings
with its clear skies and wonderful views of snow-clad mountain summits The thaw which
comes in spring means that mosses reappear as do lichens, and other plants and trees such
as coigües and lengas. It is thrilling to see the red fox in search of its mate; the
striking guanaco, wild rabbits and beavers engaged in intense activity after their long
winter period. Migratory birds are back searching for their usual habitats during the
spring season.
November and December in Antarctica
Penguin colonies and marine animals can be enjoyed in this period of the year.In
November and December, the days are longer and warmer, new landscapes of sculpted ice and
pristine icebergs emerge and there is more time for wildlife observation. In this season
it is much easier to see penguin colonies standing on the rocks, and marine mammals. It is
possible for you to spend Christmas and New Year in the Antarctic Continent. Penguin eggs
hatch early on the Falkland islands. This is a unique sight.Seals litters appear
first on the South Georgia islands, and are then followed by male and female colonies. |

January, February and March in Antarctica
These months are very important for active wildlife, and also important for whale
watching. The ice will allow us to explore the South of the Antarctic Peninsula.Penguin
colonies and adult birds together busily collect krill to feed their young, now grown
bigger, and venturing into the sea.Hairy seals come closer to the boats out of curiosity
and seem to welcome visitors. In February to March beautiful sunrises and sunsets create
stunning photo opportunities; whale watching is at its best; penguin chicks begin to
fledge; snow algae blooming; fur seals increasingly common on the Antarctic Peninsula. No
matter when you come, you will be delighted and astonished, fulfilled and re-created by
the experience.
March and April in Patagonia
Although these months begin to be colder, it is possible to see the species busily engaged
in their migration processes or collecting food for the long winter period. On the coast,
we will enjoy the company of dolphins, albatrosses, and cormorants. The fauna species get
ready for their long Austral winter.Migratory birds start their migration processes in
search of warmer climates
