LESSONS OF HUMILITY

SELECTED POEMS AND PROSE

FOR CHILDREN

By Helen Pearson Garrett

SMALL THOUGHTS

I would not think small
Thoughts
For then the Great Ones
Might escape,
And Never assume
Again
Their Shape.

PETTY THINGS

I would not occupy
Myself
With petty things
For then I might
Lose My Eternal Crown
And Never find
My Wings!

OUR SWEETEST THOUGHTS

Our sweetest Thoughts
are sent by thee;
The greatest Thoughts of Man
Are Thine.
I pray that I May
Always See
In all that guides
Me
Thy Design.

A SONG OF CREATION

We Know
Who Created
The World,
And Who
The Wide
Skies Unfold.

We Know
Who hung
The Stars into
Place
With such
Meticulous,
Such infinite
Grace.
We Know
Who had
A Great
Plan,
We Know
Who breathed
Life
Into Man.

We Know
Who Gave
Man
A Soul,
And inspired
Him
With his
Eternal Goal.

We Know
Who Gives
A Bird
It's Song.
We Know
What makes
A Tree
Grow Tall
And Strong.

We Know
Who puts
It's bright
Dress
On a Flower,
And Who
Sends to Us
The fresh
Morning
Shower.

We Know
Who Is Lord
Over All ~
And Who
Stands right
Now
Just Within
Our Call.

I LOVE A RAINY DAY

I Love A Rainy Day!
Seeing Children scurrying
With dripping bright faces
And People hurrying
Towards sheltered
Places - -
Umbrellas tilted
To keep Out
The shower,
And rain coming
Faster, hour Upon
Hour.

I like Air that smells
Moist, Heavenly sweet,
And Water oozing
At My plastic
Shod feet.

Drops shimmer
Like
Diamonds
On the Window
Panes!

Do You Like
It . . .
When It
Rains

ALL IS NOT LOST

All Is
Not
Lost!
Our
Little
Ship
Is
Only
Storm Tossed.

TOMORROW WILL BE BETTER

Tomorrow Will be
A fresh New
Day
All shining With
Dew.
Dear Lord
May I spend
All The Day
Looking Unto
And Learning
More of You.

May I follow
In Your
Pathways,
May I try
To be More
Like You.
May Your
Blessings
Be Upon
All that I
Do!

SIMPLICITY

God Watches Out
For The Sparrow . . .
And Keeps It in
HIS Care.
Should it Not then
Be simple for Me
To know
That HE Will
Answer
My Prayer?

A GOD DIRECTED LIFE

I love living a God - Directed
Life!
It Takes away all of
Struggle and Strife.
I only seek to do
HIS Will
As I kneel Before
HIM . . .
Gentle and Still.

MY CHRISTMAS STORY- MERRY CHRISTMAS WITH LOVE!

One Christmas Season long ago, God Touched My Life Miraculously. I Was very ill in Queen of Angels Hospital With What a prominent Actor once called "The Big C." He Mercifully granted My deepest Wish - to go Home to be With MY very concerned family. Truly, I was saved by Grace! Doctors had predicted after surgeries that I would have only Six to Eight Months to live.
In addition to the Wondrous gift of Life, My Heavenly Father has given Me Other rich gifts - of Writing Poetry and Song; as well as the ability to paint in oils, Which I had not known previously that I possessed. Since then, I have shared these Gifts With Many Others around The World.

One of My sons Is a Missionary in Chile. In 1986 I spent a greatly Blessed Christmas with him There, and Met charming Monica, now his Wife. The Lord illuminates and guides My Life in a continuous Ministry of Letters, Poems and Songs. I had Written to the ailing President "Ike " Eisenhower. I had Sent Two Poems on Faith, and had asked him to run again.
I had worked on his Campaign.
I was surprised to receive a warmly appreciative
and detailed letter from the White House in response.
It was the Beginning of My Writing Ministry, for it gave Me Much encouragement in trying to help others
through the hard places.
Jesus' Birthday is Very Meaningful to Me, since It was at this time that He came close to Me and Whispered, "Get Well, Helen. Work For Me, Care for Your boys". So I Always celebrate by sending out Widely a Christmas Poem, to Glorify His Most Beautiful Name.

Merry Christmas With Love,

A SONG FOR YOUR CHRISTMAS

There was
No room
For Them
In The Inn,
And Mary
Was so
Weary,
So weary
And worn,
On that prescient
Night,
That prescient
Night,
The awesome
Night
When Christ
Was Born.

But the straw
In The Manger
Shone like
Gold.
While the World's
Sweetest Story
Went on
To Unfold,
And silvery Songs
Of bright Angels
Richly filled
The air
as the humble
Stable
Became fragrant
With Prayer.

The Shepherds
Had followed
The Great Guiding
Star
Which had
Led
Them so surely
From Afar,
To the glowing
Spot
Where the wee Babe
Lay
In a Light
That was brighter,
Brighter
Than Day!
The Child
Had Come
To bring
Salvation,
Eternal Life,
To deliver
The World
From it's pain
And strife,
To bring it
Peace and rest
In it's
Mad pace,
And to fill
Our lives
With His Joy
And Grace.

Is there Room
In Your Heart
For The Babe,
Room for
HIS Joy
Divine?
Open Your
Heart
And Let
Him In,
Let Him In
This Christmas-
time,
O, Let Him
In
This Wondrous
Christmas time!

DEAR LITTLE TOWN
(Christmas Carol)

Dear Little Town
Where The Shepherds
Once Came
To give Praise and Glory
To His Holy Name...
To proclaim the Grace
of The Savior's Birth
That All Might
Know
of His Wondrous
Worth.
///Dear Little Town! ///
Where The Animals
Knelt
To show the reverence
Which they all
felt.
///Dear Little Town! ///
Where The Wise
Men Came
Bringing gifts
So Precious
In His Name.
Dear Little Town
Where the Angels
Sang
Their
"Gloria"
To His glad
Renown.
///Dear Little Town! ///
With its Manger
Bed.
Dear Little Town
Where a brilliant
Star led.
///Dear little Town! ///

A KING IS BORN

I stood on
a lofty
pinnacle
alone.
One star was
in the
sky;
I saw a vision
of a Throne.

Faintly, I heard
a Baby's
cry.
I made my way
down
the steep hill -
And brushed
an Angel's wing.

I saw
even the
animals
knelt
to pray.

It was so wondrous...
I started to sing
And
I Sang:

"Glory to God
in the Highest!

And on earth
Peace, good will
toward men.

For... in Bethlehem
A Savior
is born
this day...

Who to all
peoples
Shall be
The Life,
The Truth,
and
The Way!"

TRUST ME
Do Not Doubt!
Do Not Complain!
God Will Take Care
Of You, Never Fear.
He is Aware of You
He is Near.
Learn To Trust
Me
Perfectly.
Speak No Negative
Words - but Only
Words to His
Praise and Glory.
You are What
You see
And Hear.

IF YOU DON'T KNOW MY
SAVIOR

If You Do Not
Know
My Savior,
Then Come to
Him
Today.
He Will Gladly
Redeem You.
All you Need
Do
Is Confess
and Pray.

THE GREAT GARDENER

Life is like
A Garden
And the Great
Gardener
Is God.
Over every plot
of ground
He is free
To Trod.

He tills the
Soil
Plants the
Seeds
and stooping
down
pulls up
The Weeds.

Then He
Smiles
as He
Sees flowers
blooming
Here and There,
Their Faces
lifted as
though
In Prayer.

He pauses beside
A delicate Flower
It's face turned
Toward the Sky.
He says, "I will
Take you Home
With Me Today.
At my right arm -
there still
Is Room".

And Angels sweetly sing as
They bear the Flowers
Along;
While from Everywhere
Surrounding Comes
The loveliness
Of Song.

Troubles? I had loads of them - family responsibilities, frailty following Cancer surgeries. Name it. I had it!
But when he opened his Bible - and showed Me that Verse - {Hebrews 11:1-6} - I was dazzled by the brightness of God's promises - and I felt lifted from the pains of life, filled with hope and courage.
Ever since, it has served as a guide to lead me out of troubles into The Light of His Truth, and onto the firm Foundation of HIS Love.

Helen Pearson Garrett

Hebrews 11:1-6

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
For by it the elders obtained a good report.
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
