LESSONS OF HUMILITY
By Helen Pearson Garrett
I Am Expecting a Day of Great Joy On Thanksgiving Day.
I Know it will be glorious as I walk Through it With You . . .
as in My Poem ~ "I See A Bluebird".
May the Blessings You bestow Upon Me on That Day be Multiplied - and
overflow
to others;
that others May see the Beauty of a Life lived For You . . . and With
You!
And Dear Father, May I teach Others Not to be afraid, as You have
Taught
Me so Well; but to
Trust You implicitly For Everything; To Praise You For Everything!
The Good and The Bad. For I Know So Well That For Me You Always Turn
The
Bad Into
Good!
And so, My Father, I look forward With the Uttermost Joy To My Day of
Thanks
To You and
Your Wonderful Son, Jesus.
May You be Glorified Together By All that I Say and Do, and May Your
Holy
Spirit Lead Me
always.
Amen

Dedication to Heln Garrett
We dedicate the following poem "Mother"
by Elly LeBlanc to our Mother:
Helen Garrett (1905-1995)
Helen was a very good mother,
a writer, a poet and a
member of the Mayfower Society.
Mother
By Elly LeBlanc
What dreams did You have that You put aside for me?
What promises, made to yourself, that You never got to see?
In the beginning of life I demanded, You gave
For everything I asked, You gave
Your infinite wisdom, You gave, even without asking!
Of course I didn't always listen!
That is how we are set-up,
To live and learn from mistakes we make,
Triumphs accomplished, love forsaken
Yet still I falter, still I wade
Through lifes oft muddied waters
Teetered on the edge
I hold my breath and say to myself
What would You do?
Suddenly, as if my life to the present replays through my memory
I remember things you taught me
Words You gave in comfort
Tears you dried and wounds You healed
I'm up to your knees again, I feel picked up, and held
Instantly I'm focused
The inner child still there can see again!
You are the strongest person I will ever know
You are and always will be, constantly with me
I ache to do half as well as You, if the time comes...
Yours is the only love unquestioned
That is always tested
Unconsciously that is, for what do we know?
You are selfless, there is no hidden agenda
Such an altruistic act no-one could seek
Your omniscience, patience and understanding
Will be forever with me
I return daily now, in my reflection
I love You Mother
I owe You everything!
Thankyou, Mother!
Your loving sons,
Ben & Rod

PRAYER
It' s A Waiting
On
And A Believing,
A Trusting
In Thee.
It's A Praying
And A
Knowing
Thou Wilt
Surely
Set Me Free.
It, s A Praising
And A Loving
In The Place
Of Dark
Despair.
It' s A Safety
Of Existence
I Could Never
Find Elsewhere.
It, s A Joy
And
A Surrender
And A Resting
In Thee
It' s A Knowledge
That When
Ready
Thou Wilt
Fully Succor
Me.
It' s A Faith
To Feel
Thy Pathway
Under
My Wandering,
Seeking
Feet.
It' s A Whispering
Hope
To Guide Me
And Make
Life Worthwhile
And Sweet.
Then , When
"The Seeing"
Comes
Along With
These,
And The Veil
Is Torn Away,
I'll Know The Meaning
Of The Waitings
And I' ll Be Rejoicing
All The Way.

LESSONS OF ADVERSITY
I ask
For sunshine,
Thou givest
Rain.
I ask
For health,
And feel
Pain.
I ask
For riches,
And receive
A stone.
For companionship
I pray,
Then I find Myself
Alone
Lord, I thank
Thee
For the Lessons
of adversity,
So that I must
Pause,
And search
For Thee.
`
ONLY BELIEVE!
Believe!
And Miracles
Of Faith
Take place.
The Door
Of Heaven
Is opened
Wide
To assure
you
Of God' s
Grace.
Believe!
And Wonders
Shall take
Place
As of yore,
For God
Stands back
Of HIS
PROMISES
As surely
As Ever
Before.

ADORATION
Lord, Thou art
Altogether Lovely.
Thou movest
Through
Our lives
With more grace
Than the swan,
And like
A great White
Ship
Navigating through
The rough waters,
Calming and conquering
Them
As thou goest.
Thy fragrances
Are like
Fair Blue Violets
and
Fresh, Pure Lilies
And Thy Golden
Touch
Is the greatest
Reward
I can Ever
Know.
`
O, WHAT A LOVELY
MORNING!
O, What a Lovely
Morning!
O, What a Glorious
Day,
For I lifted
My heart
Up to God,
And I know
That He heard
Me
Pray.
I felt so sure
of HIS Presence
And His abounding,
Abiding Love,
He kept pouring
Down
His Blessings
Directly from
His Throne
Above.
And My heart
Was strengthened,
Made very strong.
The Way ahead
No more seemed
Hard or long.
For God
In His Mighty
Power
Has visited me
In this tranquil
Hour.
O What
A glorious
Day.
For I lifted
My heart Up
To God,
And I knew
That HE heard
Me
Pray.

GOD IN NATURE
Just sit
And watch
A bright Cloud
Some day...
Or Trees
That are
Blowing
And swaying.
Listen awhile
And try
To discern
What the trees
And the breezes
Are saying.
I think they tell
of God' s Wonders
In all of
His Marvelous
World,
When the trees
Are softly blowing
And swaying,
With all of
Their green leaves
Unfurled
And I think
The bright clouds
Are depicting
HIS glory
And the greatness
Of Things
Yet To Be,
When the Promises
He has given
Us
Shall with
His Fulfillment's
Set Us
Free.
Then . . . when
There are
Storm clouds
Sailing through
A dark sky,
And the winds
Are rough
And high,
I think
As the shaken
Leaves
Swirl and blow,
"All about
This storm
God
Doth know."

FOREVER TRIUMPHANT
I am
Forever
Triumphant
In Jesus
As He leads
The Way.
I know
That
My Good
Shepherd
Will Never,
Never
Lead Me
Astray.
And in
This knowledge
Is Triumph,
Triumph
Supreme!
Climbing the steep
Hill,
I find Victory.
In the desert,
I find
A stream.

BIRDSONG AT DAWN
Every Morn
I hear
A bird
Singing,
"Tweet-twa-twee,
Tweet-twa-twee,"
As it goes
Winging.
I know, somehow,
In My inner
Heart
There is a message
In it
About My part
In God' s Plan.
"Tweet-twa-twee,
Tweet-twa-twee,"
Every Morn I hear
It,
A Message
For Me.
May I know
God' s Plan
As I listen,
listen.
May the knowledge
Seep in
And glisten, glisten
Like a Pearl' s
Bright Shining.
That I may
Know
The Way
My Wondrous
Lord
Would have
Go
Today.

FROM ONE LITTLE
GRAIN OF SAND
(Helen's first Poem,195?)
From One Little grain
of Sand
A Pearl can grow,
and one Little Bit
of Faith
Can Help You Know
There Is
Someone
Who will Understand.

This is the beach and "Bird Rock" in front of which, Helen was
inspired to write her first poem, "From One Little Grain of Sand"
Laguna Beach, California
Photo compliments of Adele Hofman. (1923-2001)
Thank you Adele!
Helen wrote about the how this poem came to her:
"The Poem had Come to Me
Like a Comet, flashing into
My Life ~ that amazing Day
At The Sea as I sat at the foot
of the cliff across from Bird rock.
I was Carrying a heavy load of Care . . .
But the Cares were lifted,
And My Heart became as Light
as a feather. Everything Changed!
It was as though a grain
of Sand had been enlarged
Before My Eyes . . .
and The Little Poem That
Came to Me had
Captured My Thoughts, and
Lifted Them.
A Miracle had Come
To Me at The Sea!"
`
Comment:
A pearl is formed by an oyster and is
comprised of layer upon layer of a crystalline substance that is called
nacre, . The nacre is created by the oyster as a reaction to an
irritant, such as a piece of sand, that is placed in the oyster's body
by a qualified pearl expert.
Only natural pearls are formed by layers of nacre deposited around an
irritant that occurs naturally (not placed by man) in the body of the
oyster.
A pearl formed in any other way may resemble a natural pearl, but,
having been man- made through a manufacturing technique, is an
imitation or simulated pearl. A reputable jeweler will label pearls
accordingly or convey that information to prospective buyers.
The value of a pearl , in part, is based upon its ability to absorb,
refract and reflect light. It is the ability of the nacre to do that
which creates that distinctive quality of natural and cultured pearls.
That special glow, called orient defines the value of a pearl. The
deeper the luster and iridescence, the more precious the pearl. Other
things which contribute to the value of a pearl are:
~ Size: Larger pearls are scarcer so they are more valuable.
~ Shape: Symmetrical pearls are scarcer, so they are more valuable.
Symmetrical pearls can be any number of shapes including: round, pear,
tear, and oval. Irregular pearls are called baroque .
~Surface Perfection: The smoother, silkier pearl is harder to find, and
so, more valuable. Blemishes which detract from a pearl's value are
visible to the naked eye.
~ Rarity: Pearls which are matched in orient, size, shape and color are
limited and, therefore, are rare
THE SONG I HEARD
All day I walked
along The Sea,
For It' s roving
Song
Kept enticing
Me.
The Song made
My Heart
Feel as calm
And free
as a Meadowlark' s
singing
On a wide green
Lea.
Salt spray touched Me
In gentle Caresses,
And the Time of Day
Was anyone's guess. . .
For nothing mattered
Anymore
But the sound of
The Waves
Sweeping the shore.
The Song I Heard
Was brave and
Strong,
And The Way
ahead
No more seemed
Long,
As I walked
Beside
The Singing Sea. . .
My Heart in Tune
With God inside
Me.

I See a Ship
On The Horizon
Sailing toward
Our Isle of Care.
I See a cloud
Lifting above Us
In Answer
To our Prayer.
And We shall keep
on trusting All
To our great God
Above.
For We Know that
When He is ready
He will reach out
To us in Love.

SUNLIGHT IN MY SOUL
` There is Sunlight
In My Soul,
And though storms
with darkness roll,
No terror can assail
Me
With God' s Sunlight
In My Soul.
There is Sunlight
In My Soul
And with His Life
As My goal,
No danger can
Ever conquer Me
With His Sunlight
In My Soul.
There is Sunlight
In My Soul,
And with His
Infinite Love
For Me
I shall sing
His Song of a Victory
As boundless as
The Sea!

JESUS LOVED THE SEA
Jesus loved The Sea ,
You know, and often
He would say,
"Come Peter, Andrew, let
Us go to The Seaside
Today".
His footsteps seemed to
glow beside me in the
Damp White sand, and
As I stood there close
to Him, I felt My Soul
Expand.
I found a Wondrous
Beauty
There by the shining
Sea
On that Day when
Jesus Walked There
So Near and Dear
To Me.

I SEE A BLUEBIRD
I see a Bluebird
In the Willow Tree
The Sun has risen
Over The Brook
And There Jesus
Waits for Me.
All day I shall
Walk and Talk
With Him,
It will be All
Joy to my Heart.
His Joys become
My Joys.
His Sorrows
Stand for
All the woe
My swelling
Heart
Shall surely
Know
For He keeps
coming back
To me and
Knocking at
My Door.
He walks
With Me
So often
Now
Ever more
and more.
He is always
So Cheerful
and He tells Me
not to fear.
He always says,
"Be not afraid,
For I Am Here."
He is very active,
And He
Says "let us go"
Where He intends
To Lead Me
I never know.
But I just put
My hand in His,
as we walk
along,
And as I do
This...
My Life
Becomes All
Song!
Because with
Him
Each hour is so
exiting~and somehow
Very grand
with Him I Never
have to feel that
I might be
Lost upon
Life's Strand~

*THE TOUCH OF THE
BLUEBIRD'S WING*
Praise God For everything,
Helena,
The Blue Skies!
The Butterflies
The Birds
That Sing!
Praise God
Too, for all
That
goes
Wrong.
Then He will
Give to You
His Cheerful over-
coming Bluebird's
Song!
Praise Him for all
of the Negative Things...
Then you Will quickly find
Your Bluebird Wings!
Find your Bluebird's Wings
and Fly Up
High, Helena
Into a Wider and
Wider Sky!
Praise Him for all
of the Negative Things...
Then you Will quickly find
Your Bluebird Wings!
