ABOUT US
- The S/V VICTORY was launched
on March 7, 1986 in Puerto Montt, Chile after 3 years of construction
and Victory Adventure Expeditions was founded. Shortly afterwards. Capt. Ben met his wife, Monica in Puerto Montt at the Foursquare church.
- Since that time the yacht S/V VICTORY has done tourism in such
places as Puerto Montt, Valparaiso, Arica and Cape Horn, Chile, sailing
from one end of Chile's 2,600 mile coastline to the other.
- The Tallship S/Y VICTORY has a new owner, but is still based in picturesque
Puerto Williams in the Tierra Del Fuego section of Chile among
the unspoiled beauty of "The Uttermost Part Of The Earth".
- Captain Ben Garrett is a veteran navigator , Electronic
Engineer from California and director of Victory Adventure Expeditions. He almost died in 1977 from
a decompression accident (Bends), while diving for lobster in Easter Island, Chile. This
left him using a cane, but he continued sailing another 29 yearsand retired in 2006.
-
He had a dream... to help others experience the wonders of the Islands of Southern Chile, the cold oceans, Antarctica, Cape Horn and Tierra Del Fuego.
In 1986, Ben took a big step in realizing his dream -- the launching of the Tall Ship S/V VICTORY...
-
New destinations were offered, including the Arctic, Northern Russia islands, and the North and South Pole.
- Ben and his Chilean wife, Monica, their daughters, Grace,
Vicki (Victoria) and Amy live in their new house they built recently
in Puerto Williams with a view of the Beagle Channel and Tierra Del Fuego
Island.
It is the World's most Southern town, is "crime free"* and has
a population of about 2000 persons.
The Garretts have navigated the region of Tierra Del Fuego
since January 10, 1991 after arriving in Puerto Williams for a documentary about Darwin's voyage with the VICTORY as the Star.
- Ben & Monica Garrett are active with various
public benefit programs in Puerto Williams including the founding of a branch
of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Ukika
Yagan Indian Church.
- They have established a Bed and Breakfast for up to 11 passengers as well as a Cyber Cafe and a new Mini Market that caters to yachters passing through Puerto Williams.
- Passengers' e-mail references are available upon
request.
See chile_testimonials.html
- Victory Adventure Expeditions is registered with Senatur,
the National Tourism Service Of Chile and the Puerto Williams tourist committee.
* Puerto Williams is virtually Crime free, due to the Chilean Navy presence and its being on an island near Cape Horn away from everything! It could be said to be one of the most peaceful places on earth.
1) No drugs
2) One may leave the keys in the car. (Where can they go if they did steal it?)
3) No guns
4) No Violence
