The "Santa Maria"

The "SANTA MARIA" was designed by the technical yacht designer REINKE in Stuttgart.   She is a "Stays'l sloop"  of the "HYDRA" type.

She is 14,74 m long and weighs 18 tons. With seven bunks the ship is not overcrowded, but offers a certain degree of comfort.

Two Mercedes Diesel Engines guarantee maneuverability and reliability, the self control system is optimized for long travel. Life raft, automatic safety wests  and Life Belts, as well as all kinds of other electronic equipment increase security and comfort on board.

The thing which makes the yacht perfect for sailing at Cape Horn and in the Antarctic is the solid steel structure (5 mm), the stable Rig with a strong mast (15 m), and a firm closed deck house. Additionally a selection of small,  firm sails and the two reliable diesel engines give additional security.

A quiet harbor

The "Santa Maria" is divided with 3 bulkheads to
help her keep from sinking in case of collision.
She has two rudders which independent hydraulic action.
Her two motors are driven by two independent drive shafts.
